DID YOU KNOW?
We are proud to confirm that we select every Zebra skin we offer very carefully for its colour, size and grade (the number of flaws or imperfections on the Zebra skin determines its grade). African Leather will be able to provide you with various grades of Zebra skins.

We provide skins from two different species of zebra:

Burchell's Zebra

Hartmann's Zebra

Burchell's Zebra

For the Burchell's Zebra (African Zebra), the only guarantee to survival is outrunning or escaping their predators. Consequently, many zebras end up with scars from encounters with their enemies (lions, cheetahs, cacti, etc.). You can therefore expect certain marks when buying a zebra skin.

The Burchell's Zebra is not endangered and it is legal to sell or own a zebra skin. When purchasing a high quality zebra skin from us, you can be assured that we will assist you in obtaining the proper permits and meeting the requirements for legal exporting. Furthermore we subscribe to the regulations of the South African government regarding the culling of Burchell's Zebras.

Hartmann's Zebra

The Hartmann's Zebra is a mountain zebra, indigenous to South Africa and Namibia. The skins of the Hartmann's and the Burchell's look almost identical, except for a slight variation of the stripe pattern on the saddle area.

The Hartmann's Zebra is however an endangered species, which means that it is illegal to sell or own a skin without a CITES permit. You can relax that African Leather will assist you with all the processes involved. The culling of the Hartmann's Zebras, as well as the regulation of the legal export of the skins, are also regulated by the South African and Namibian governments. We do, however, recommend not to export to the USA and Australia, due to strict import procedures.

Rest assured that when purchasing a quality zebra skin from African Leather, all legalities will be taken care of in a proper manner.
