Burchell's Zebra

Hartmann's Zebra

Burchell's Zebra

The Burchell's Zebra (African Zebra) run in herds on the plains of Africa. For these zebras, survival is only guaranteed by outrunning or barely escaping their predators. As a result, many of these zebra end up with scars from close calls with lions, cheetahs, thorns, cacti and a host of other things that create blemishes on their hides.

The Burchell's Zebra is not an endangered species nor is it illegal to sell or own anywhere in the world. African Leather assists clients in obtaining the proper permits for export of these hides. The culling of Burchell's Zebras is regulated by the South African government. The government also regulates the legal export of the skins. You can rest assured that your purchase of a Zebra skin from African Leather will meet all legal requirements.

African Leather offers high quality Burchell's Zebra skins (Equus Burchelli).

Hartmann's Zebra

The Hartmann's Zebra is a mountain zebra, indigenous to South Africa and Namibia. The skins of the Hartmann's and the Burchell's look almost identical, except for a slight variation of the stripe pattern on the saddle area.

The Hartmann's Zebra is an endangered species and it is illegal to sell or own a skin without a CITES (Convention for International Trade on Endangered Species) permit. The culling of the Hartmann's Zebras is regulated by the South African and Namibian governments. The governments also regulate the legal export of the skins. African Leather assists in obtaining the proper CITES permits for exports. Due to complex official procedures of the USA and Australia it is not recommended to export Hartmann's zebra skins to these countries.

You can feel confident that your purchase of a Zebra skin from African Leather will be a legal, quality Hartmann's Zebra skin.
